Yes I guess I can try in a virtual test environment, I kind of been off the technical stuff for a few years and the last version I worked with was 2K3 so I'm a little rusted. Thanks for the response, Mike

Hi, The present configuration is Win Server 2000 single server running as PDC I will be replacing it with Server 2008 R2 Standard I have read about running ADPREP from the 2008 CD on the 2000 server etc... I would like to prepare as much as I can before I arrive to my customer's site so my question is: Can I install Windows server 2008 R2 on the new server as a stand alone, install all software (TBU, Drivers, Win updates, etc...) and then take the new server on site and perform the DC changes? My plan is to make the new server as BDC, then promote it and then turn off the old server. Thanks for any highlights, Mike
