ok thanks so where do i change the VPN ip address. do you mean i need to put the local IP of my computer on a different SUBNET to the LAN that im connecting to. So right now thyre on the same subnet eg, 192.168.1.1 current network on my laptop 192.168.1.1 VPN LAN network IP so when im pinging, its not sure which network to ping on? like local or over the VPN? thanks again for you patience! your awesome PS. check you inbox, i PMed you

Ok well the network drive im mapping is on the server so 192.168.1.2. This is probobally why its working, because im connected to the server right? But nothing onwards works, 192.168.1.3 onwards, cant ping However when i ping my printer, 192.168.1.200 over the vpn it says Reply from 192.168.1.4: destination host unreachable So it knows its there, and also changes the ip for sone reason? Thanks

ok so i just enabled DMZ, put the local IP of my SERVER in, removed all port forwarding and all is working fine!! Another question regarding DMZ, i have a DVR i connect to remotely, and used to have to port forward to open the ports for remote viewing. So im guessing now all i need to do (some how and this is the part im not sure how to do) is setup the port forwarding of the specific port to the correct local IP. For example, in the application i use to connect to my cameras, i will put my remote IP assigned by my ISP. Then it will connect to the SERVER (192.168.1.2) as DMZ is forwarding all connections to the server. Then, somehow i need to forward port 8016 to 192.168.1.100 which is the DVR from the server. so xxx.xx.xxx.xxx >> 192.168.1.2 via 8016 >> 192.168.1.100.. My question is how can i forward ports in my server. Is this a feature or role in server 2008 or would this be routing? Thanks for any help in advance!! Thanks!!

Hi, i have a few questions regarding my server 2008. I have just installed windows server 2008 and am playing around with some stuff, Very Fun Just installed IIS and found how to host my own site. I have a question on VPN and pinging internal hosts but another topic is already posted and am getting help on that, so, Ill shoot! My questions are as follows 1. I setup a FTP server, but cannot connect. I port forwarded port 21 (FTP) to 192.168.1.2 which is my server. Still cant connect to it via a web browser from a remote location. Any ideas on what this could be? 2. For enabling the IIS web server and FTP and also PVN, ive had to port forward 3 ports, 1723, 21, and 80, I though poort forwarding was dangerous? is this the right way? Im sure ive forgotten something! Random question, on my SMC Barrigade G router, it only allows like 10 ports to be forwarded, then says "maximum entries exceeded". any idea on how this can be resolved? I would be most greatful for answers on the above, Thanks!!

Server or client side? Thanks

Could you explain how to do this Im sorry this is a learning curve to me I have however just found the server was assigning Vpn connections static ips not assigning over DHCP? Not sure if this would make a difference Thanks for your patience

box use default gateway on remote network is already cleared. when i try my printer IP, Which is 192.168.1.200 (thats the local address) it says reply from 192.168.1.4: Destination host unreachable and changed the ip address to 192.168.1.4 from 192.168.1.200 also, no printer can be found if i add network printer thanks
-
so reading a bit further, i found i may need to forward Protocol 47 GRE. However, in port forwarding, only TCP and UDP are avalibale protocols for forwarding. I have a SMC Barrigde router. thanks
-
So what would i need to configure in the firewall to enable this Just odd i cant find printers either. Its not really working as a VPN yet Also windows firewall is disabled and i dont really use the router firewall Would this require setting up routing? Thanks again!
-
But when im local, i can ping fine, its just remotely I have ping enabled on the router
-
one more thing, when i ping the printer 192.168.1.200 i get reply from 192.168.1.200:Destination host unreachable and it displays the ip address 192.168.1.4 like its changed it? Thanks
-
Its currently only me using this VPN while in testing Its over windows with port 1723 TCP forwarded on a SMC router. The VPN server is server 2008 and protocol PPTP. Ive got the internet issue sorted, but still cant find any printers, However whwn i ping the printer (192.168.1.200) i get a reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: destination host unreachable And when it pings for some reason, changes the IP to 192.168.1.4 Thanks for your help!

hi, Ive just created a VPN and connected sucessfully. However, ive noticed its not quite performing correctly. 1. I cant use the internet when connected to the server (locally or remotely, no internet at all) 2. i cant find printers on the remote local server 3. i cant ping local hosts remotely 4. nothing appears under the "network", i thought the network name or host name would appear under network and allow me to browse shared documents, eg, COMPUTER_NAME in "networ" however i can map network drives. Any help much appreciated, Cheers

Windows Server 2008 Problem After Install
iphonogasm replied to iphonogasm's topic in Servers / Domains / Hosting
I will format completely tonight including XP and have only the one HDD and do a fresh install. Its just odd its like the correct services arent running? It lools like windows 95 style. Not windows 7 style. How would drivers effect this? And what drivers would i need to update? I hace a ASUS K8V-MX board. Thanks -
Ok hi, so i just installed windows server 2008 R2, its on a seperate partition to my XP installation. The problem is, when server 3008 boots, its grey and everything is classic looking, like old style start menu, and everything is old style grey like some windows services havnt loaded or something? The XP and server installations are on seperate hard drives. Do i need Windows 7 installes and install server 2008 over it, or is windows server 2008 R2 completely stand alone? There are also more issues relating to hardware, one or two wireless lan card wont enable. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Hi, this is my first post on these forums, I purchased windows server 2008 a while ago and have misplaced the CD, luckily i have backed it up by copying it :) (backup freak haha) now my problem is i need to reinstall it but cannot boot from the CD, i have first boot device set to CDROM drive in the BIOS and it doesnt read it and give the option to boot from it? any ideas on how i could burn a boot image to make it bootable? Thanks in advance!
