1. Hi Haris, do you mean you want to issue these DNS addresses when DHCP clients obtain a lease? add the DNS server to the scope options of your DHCP server, this way when clients retreive a lease they will be issued these DNS servers, in order entered. Hope i understood correctly
2. Ok so i have the domain www.megahosting.co.nz I contact the company that is hosting my domain, and they said i need to setup these name servers on my side I guess so my name server ns1.haighaccess.net resolves my public ip right? Or would it be ns1.megahosting.co.nz This is for educational purposes to learn more about DNS anyway so id like to do it the hard way :P Thanks for your help
3. Hi, im quite new to DNS and have a new domain www.example.com which require me to specify a DNS server. So im creating a DNS server. ns1.haighaccess.net, and ive done a DNS lookup and it is not taken. I have created the Zone, but cannot ping my hostname ns1.haighaccess.net remotely from outside the network. ie. ns1.haighaccess.net should resolve xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx I can ping the hostname lacally ns1.haighaccess.net resolves 192.168.0.2 Any ideas? Thanks!
4. hi, i am trying to setup a network printer using a TCP/IP port, and share the printer via the server. However the printer keeps going offline. Disabling SNMP has no effect, the printer shows ready but still brings up a print error. When doing a network search for the printer via the server, it finds the printer (MFC-7360N) and the WebServices printer. However after adding the printer and leaving from 10 minutes to 1 day, the printer goes offline. I cannot perform another network printer scan unless restarting as i receive the following error "Windows could not start the TCP/IP printer part of this search because another TCP/IP search is already running. To run the TCP/IP ppart of this search wait until other printer searches have finished and try again" this is fixed with a reboot, and i have no other searches running at the time. Ive tried to restart TCP/IP print and print spooler services. No luck This doesnt happen from any client PCs. All client PCs can install the printer via a search, and all works fine. Thnaks for any help!
5. Hi, im getting multiple RDP onnection attempts, whether or not they are actual RDP connections i am not sure, but i would like, when im getting a conection other then from me, to kill it. Ive tried in CMD qwinsta /SERVER:SERVERNAME and then rwinsta /SERVER:SERVERNAME SESSIONID to kill it but it doesnt kill it. Im using microsoft network monitor to monitor traffic and i can see connection attempts scrolling (or active connections, SCARY! has a payoad of 0 but so does it when i am connected!) Would i be ablse to set a rule to say shut down RDP for say 10 minutes after so many failed authentications attempts? Would this be under Security Policys? Im not too familiar with policys. Thanks in advance!!
6. anyone? P-Mode sound familar? Thanks
7. Hi, ive got a D-Link router setup with port mirroring, and using microsoft network monitor to monitor all traffic. This is the current configuration DES-3226S:4#show mirror Command: show mirror Current Settings Mirror Status: Enabled Target Port : 22 Mirrored Port RX: 1-21,23-24 TX: 1-21,23-24 DES-3226S:4# but still not all traffic is monitored? Thanks!!
8. ive tried openning the following, FTP server's port 21 FTP server's port 1023 FTP server's port 20 which was in your post, correct? Update: I have just tried this http://www.velikan.net/iis-passive-ftp/ with no luck. also just tried all steps here, http://www.winservermart.com/HowTo/IIS_Passive_FTP.aspx This has been an ongoing problem for a while now and im quite despirate to get it going, below is a link to the error i am getting http://guitaronline.co.nz/passive.jpg Thanks!
9. Hi, still having problems as im trying to setup FTP in passive mode. Ive tried the above, but i cant find a option in windows firewall to enable passive mode for FTP i tried, FTP local port 21 remote port 1023. And accpected TCP incomming on 1023 No go.....what rules would i apply to allow passive mode? Thanks for your patience!
10. some help on this would be really great. I have removed the wireless connection from the bridge, but in RRAS when i try add "New Interface" it says there are no new avaliable interfaces. also when i try add a new routing protocol the only interface i can add is the Network Bridge, So, i have the wireless NIC on its own (Not in the Brige) and have setup an ad-hoc network, set an SSID and WPA key etc. However when i try connected from a wireless device, it fails to connect. Im guessing i willl also have to setup the device to assign DHCP from the server too Thanks!
11. thanks, at the moment i have the wireless NIC added to the bridge connection. Where is the router role? is it a role as such cause when i go to add role services its no where to be found Thanks!
12. ok so i still cant get this to work, managed to get the PCI card to broadcast etc over a ad-hoc setup, but i dont think this is the way to go. With an ad-hoc, is it computer to computer, meaning only one computer can connect to it at a time? also i cant even get one computer connected, it says failed to connect to netwrok! Thanks
13. so im using microsoft network monitor to monitor all traffic in and out (public) and mirrored ports for local traffic, except wireless traffic as its connecting to the router. I want to use a wifi NIC on the server to broadcast, so wireless clients can connect via the server and obtain DNS and DHCP etc from there, therefor, monitoring all traffic. Below is a diagram. Is this possible? Thanks!
14. can someone please help me, would it be possible to setup firewall rules for other computers via my "Network Bridge" Thanks
15. Ok im sure i got hacked now, not my server but another PC on my network... It had a screen saying only the administrator can logon, and its never dont that before, also now its prompting me for my password for outlook express and it never did this before. (different incident to before) I need to start working on some security I have my router (192.168.0.1) connected straight to my server and then out of my server via a bridged connection to the switch, then out to everything. So theoretically, all internet traffic is going through the server. Question, can i setup firewall rules on the server to act for all devices connected to the switch via the server? will it intercept via the bridge or can i not manage the traffic going through the bridge? example, can i block all connections to 192.168.0.24, 192.168.0.54, 192.168.0.125, 192.168.0.12 on ports 3389, 80, 21 etc by setting rules in my firewall on 192.168.0.2 (my server)? lets start with that, THANKS!!
16. Thats exactly what i thought, however its definitly not a IP i know, and if i do a tracert on it it takes about 20 hops then times out, which leads me to beleive its behind a proxy ill PM you the IP the next time it happens. Thanks!
17. so im using a protocol sniffer to monitor traffic, and have just found a active RDP connection from a random IP also just got a email saying ive used 80% of my 10GB plan, and all i do it RDP? is there a way i can view active RDP sessions and connections, i know the way through Terminal Services Client but it only shows "Administrator" logged on which is me. And not being able to have to active RDP sessions on one account, but i dont see another account active, but im deffinitly getting scrolling RDP and TCP pointing towards some random IP just as it does when i RDP into the server? Any other ideas? Im sure im a easy target HAHA!
18. thanks, i have another question...and problem The switch seems to do funny things, When i login to the swtich, some images dont load, and other times other images load... also on a system "reboot" it looses its ip address. This is a major problem for a firmware flash and when it tries to reboot, it doesnt continue with the firmware flash. any ideas?? its a D-Link DES-3226S Thanks!
19. So reading a bit further, i can do away with my router if i setup DNS? Thanks
20. Hi ive just got a D-Link DES-3226S managed switch for dirt cheap, and am have a little play around with it. Ive just setup Port Mirroring on it so i cant use my Server running a Packet Sniffer to Monitor All Traffic! This is my setup! Its a 24 Port stackable switch, with the server connected to port 24. (i dont know what port 25 and 26 is, but it has serial to) Just woundering if ive done it right, Thanks!
21. Hi, so this is also my first DNS setup, but i know nothing about DNS, i dont know how it works or what its for HAHA! all i know is its something to do with the internet, correct. Very new to this and keen to learn.. had a play around with setting one up but as you could immagine didnt get far, I guess my question right now is how exactly does it work and what exactly is it for, and maybe do i need one What lead me to setting up DNS was the fact that i have a DHCP server configured and i want the DHCP server to issue the DNS of the server not the router, eg, the DHCP server is 192.168.0.2 and so i want a DHCP lease to be IP: 192.168.0.xxx Gateway: 192.168.0.2 DNS: 192.168.0.2 this is just to keep things tidy, so its all controlled by the server, and not some things pointing to the router and some to the server! so do i require DNS to be setup? Thanks heaps!!
22. yes i can access it without passive mode enabled, but what do i need to do in order to allow passive mode connection? ie, open ports in firewall for passive? enable forwarding on my router...ill have a quick search on it too. Thanks
23. so im still stuck with this damn FTP thing. Out of everything, it seems to have been the hardest. I have checked all permissions over and over, but i get the following message. It logs me on fine as i can see myself logged on on active sessions, but wont display any folder content. Ive tried MSDOS and UNIX options heres what i get, EVERYTIME!! Thanks
24. so, ive noticed after running my FTP server which i still cant get working properly as i cant login, dont know why but ites really annoying....i keep geting FTP attacks which appears to be a dictionary attack as numerous passwords are tried. See picture below. How can i prevent this? is there like a login attemped failed timeout type thing? Thanks
25. haha i just realised the damn exclusion range is not even in the DHCP address pool. Therefor im guessing there no need to add the exclusions for those ranges as thyre not even in the scope. IDIOT!!! HAHA a quick question, can i have multiple logins on one account on a VPN, and from the same destination address ie. can i logon as Administrator and from 122.61.356.213 from two computers?? Im guessing not, just to clarify. Thanks
