1. ok, what about all those DHCP leases? and is there a way to view wat has been setup statically? also i cant add exclusions. Thanks
2. haha yes i figured this out, ive never done a bridge before so i got that one, haha. EASY! one problem has come up, my VPNs have stopped working now. It appears i can connect fine from my phone but my LAPTOP is bringing up error 800 "Attempted VPN tunnels failed" Even if i have a static range set in the RRAS properties for dial in clients, it wont accept connections?? also, in the picture below i see heaps of leases for RRAS, what are they for?? im trying to add exclusions to my scope as i have lots of static stuff configured aswell, and if im correct im pretty sure DHCP is dumb and will issue an ip address even if it is already statically assigned? am i correct therefor, i am trying to add exclusions. My DHCP scope is 192.168.0.11 >> 192.168.0.200 and im trying to add exclusions for 192.168.0.1 >> 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.201 >> 192.168.0.254 but when attempting to add them it says "The IP address range is not a subnet of the overall range" any ideas? Thanks for answering my questions
3. ok so this has been unsucessful. i just installed a second NIC. and now i have a second problem. The NIC has DISAPPEARED altogeather. I have searched and searched for a solution on this isssue and found absolutely nothing. The NIC has just disappeared altogeather from Device Manager and all. Just after i installed the second NIC, it worked fine, connected the router to the new NIC, and from the onboard to the switch, then in Network Connections, selected both network connections and right clicked, "Bridge Connections". And with both NICs setup with Static details, i could not ping either connections after the bridge was setup. then the new NIC just disappeared, so my issues now are, 1. The new NIC has just disappeared completely, not in device manager or anywhere, 2. The bridge didnt work? i had the new NIC "Network Connection 2 IN" connected to to the router IP: 192.168.0.3 Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 and the onboard "Local Connection 1 OUT" connected to the switch. which is the internet connection outgoing from the server IP: 192.168.0.2 Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 Thanks for the help!
4. so if i make the one NIC internal and the other NIC external, it would be NIC 1 (Current) 192.168.0.2 gateway 192.168.0.1 NIC 2 (outgoing traffic) 192.168.0.3 gateway 192.168.0.1 and set it to external ?? Thanks
5. if i disable passive its fine. But i want to host the server with passive mode, ive tried adding a exception in the firewall but still no luck thanks
6. ok i think ill go for a second NIC. how would i configure the NICs as far as TCP/IP? Thanks
7. so i still have this problem appears to be authentication, ive tried everyhthing!! heres the error im getting. Ive tried checking the logs but they tell me nothing apart from the fact that there was a login attempt. Thanks
8. ok hi, im using microsoft network monitor to monitor packets and active connections etc, but ive got a feeling its missing alot of traffic. I need it to monitor all incomming and outgoing traffic through the router. Below is an image of my current setup. Say a connection to 192.168.0.15 on the red line came in, the server would not monitor the traffic to it. So i was thinking, maybe i need to intercept the traffic alltogeather as there is not an option in microsoft network monitor to listen on a specific host (192.168.0.1) so something like this... Please give some comments on this Thanks!!
9. this is now a huge problem, i cant do anything and i rely on RDP as my screen
10. hi, so i recenlty installed the WDS role, and now my servers giving me huge problems. When i RDP into it, it works for a while, realy really slow and then after about 2 mins it kicks me off. Then i try ping the server, no response. then i have to restart it by powering down and up again, then i can ping it again but if i rdp it again, same thing happens over and over again Thanks!! EDIT: So i just reinstalled my wireless NIC as a backup, now i have 2 NICS Wireless NIC: IP: 192.168.2.200 Gateway: 192.168.2.1 Ethernet NIC IP: 192.168.2.100 Gateway: 192.168.2.1 Now, i just restarted it, and again i could ping both devices, reply from both, then RDPd into 192.168.2.100 and worked for about 5 minutes, and then lost connection, then i could not ping either devices. I would rather not have to reinstall windows, and this just started happenning when i installed WDS. Thanks
11. so do they need to manually initiate a RDP connection, or does it do it on logon?
12. ok cool, so install remote desktop services. just noticed i need hyper-v installed for this. im running a 32bit version of server 2008 on a P4, do you think i will be able to enable hyper-v? thanks
13. but dont they have initiate a connection each time manually, i thought that they logon and it directly loads thier desktop eg. \\SERVER\USERNAME and that would log them onto the server and load the profiles for that user? is that remote desktop services? thank you
14. ok hi, im wanting to setup a role in server 2008 to offer virtual desktops, a users starts up their computer, and logs in and the desktop settings, layout etc and everything is stored on the server and displays their settings from the server, if you know what i mean. is this Windows Deployment Services? Thanks!
15. so here my current setup. quick question, what are the eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 and eth4 options for? How does this look?? Thanks heaps!
16. interesting....so when connecting outbound to a specific port, it uses a randam port on the local machine, but the computer receiving the connection will receive it on 27015? so ill leave the port entries blank? Thanks!
17. ok ill leave port 27015 blank, however i have a game sever running on 27015 at which im trying to prevent lagg on thanks
18. so quick question, Source MAC address, and destination MAC address? what is this? MAC address as in 00 0C 05 05 05 etc, unique to my PC, so do i leave source MAC address empty to allow all connection, and just put the destination MAC in as my PC in assigning QoS to? also do i have to create 2 seperate classes to enable it on seperate proctocols, eg TCP and UDP? it doesnt give me the option to select both so im guessing create multiple classes on with UDP and one TCP Thanks! EDIT: so heres where i am now, ive set one up as follows, however when entering the MAC address it didnt like it, i went command prompt, ipconfig /all, got MAC address and entered it for the computer i was assigning QoS to, but it didnt like it, so i just left it blank. is there anyway of testing it? also where in these settings do i specify the priority? Thanks again!
19. thanks ill have a play around and post if i get stuck cheers!
20. ok thanks for your reply, here are the screenshots you want.. Thanks
21. ok hi, so this is my first time setting up QoS, Im trying to setup QoS on a SMC router. But not to sure how, i want to enable QoS to a specific IP and allow, i dunno like, 90% QoS. But which of the following do i select? and the other one is when enabling it, which option is right? Thanks heaps!
22. ok im angry, im really really angry lol. i just got a new server, running server 2008 r2 32bit. Intel D865GBF Southbridge Intel 82801EB (ICH5) Chipset i865P/PE/G/i848P ive real numerous posts regarding this and how many people have simply disabled the device in device manager and re-enabled it but and all problems were solved, but this is not the case for me So, all i can find for the manboard are XP drivers, so i installed them and they installed fine. But the "x" still remained at the volume icon in the taskbar, so i thought the drivers were incorrect being XP drivers. So today, i went and purchased a new sound card. Windows 7 compatible. installed it, installed the drivers and still, no audio devices are installed. Ive checked the Windows Audio service and its enabled and automatic, tried disabling and re-enabling the device, no luck. Ive tried windows 7 and windows Vista drivers, no luck and performed a restart after each step. So right now, i have a second PCI sound card installed, but in playback devices im still getting "No audio devices are installed". Is there a feature to enable audio on server 2008 like there is for the wireless LAN? Any help would be greatly appreciated as im not sure where to go from here. Below i have some pictures of exactly what i mean. THNAKS!!
