Hi I left Distributed Link Tracking Client on and turned off the others(not base filtering). IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules automatically turns it status to automatic after restart. So I can't set it on manuel. Should these be set to manuel? Does server 2008 R2 schedule stuff by it self? If I turn off Print Spooler, will printing still work(will it turn it self on if its on manuel?)? Task Scheduler Print spooler

I use Comodo firewall and have a basic network(computers connect to router and share files/connect to internet). Should I turn off these services? Hi If you were using Server 2008 R2 as a workstation with Avast and Comodo firewall and a basic network(computers connect to router and share files/connect to internet), what services would you turn off? Trying to clean up the computer and make it quick as possible. Cheers.

Hello I got Windows Server 2008 R2 and using it as a workstation. The other day I created 2 accounts, but they were deleted(were not needed). How ever when right click on a folder or shortcut(any folder/shortcut) and click properties,security I notice their is a account unknown(S-1-5-21-27) ( note its a lot longer than that, to much to type). In C:\Users the two accounts I made still have there folders there. Last time before this I deleted a account it deleted the complete folder. If I check the security tab of the first folder it will give a the random account unknown with a long number. The other folder is the same BUT with a different number. So both accounts are somewhat in my system still. What is the correct way of fully deleting these accounts? Note* The first account was named after the name of the computer(network name, computer name etc). After that was deleted, I later on made the same account again with the same name. There is one folder called Mycomp and another Mycomp.mycomp. Both were standard accounts.

The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004) Mean anything? Only thing I saw that may be linked is that. I notice my sound is disabled now... Windows is a strange thing. How do I change settings/policies for accounts? How can I see a list of all policies?

Hello I have Windows Server 2008 R2. When ever I change systempropertiesadvanced-change desktop look(eye candy) to customize, after logging off the settings return to normal. If I enter sounds(control panel) and change my sound scheme to no sound, after I log off and return it will change back to Windows default. I can change most settings(desktop wallpaper etc), but some settings are forced back to defaults. Is there a policy thats doing this? All of this is happening on standard users accounts. I can change what ever in Admin. Another question: My Windows Server running very quick, but I noticed RAM is very cheap these day. If I upgraded the computer to 4 Gb from 2 Gb would I notice much of a difference in speed? If you're wondering why I'm asking these questions, I use Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit as a normal computer(work station). Works completely fine. Thanks.

Did that. The icon would still not light up but when moving a window that fixed up. Also the blue box thingo would also not work. Problem is when I log out it and back in it returns back to normal :( I also don't get Aero peek. Very strange.

I noticed more now In admin account when moving a window or a program the program moves with mouse. In limited when moving a window or program only a gray out line moves until you let go of left click then the program re shows in the spot where you left it. Its not just a orange icon. For example if I click on IE its blue. Just thought you should know that. I also notice that admin account has fade effects on its menu. When I right click for example the menu fades in quickly. In limited account it just shows up.

I believe so. I selected Windows 7 theme and it looks very nice - transparent task bar etc

Cant find the settings... I got Win XP SP3 installed on the PC also and that tells me nothing about shared memory - DXdiag tells me 1 GB. So I think its just Windows server. Its a free service for students where they can get free software such as Windows server. I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64Bit. I have disabled the onboard card in the BIOS already... I'm trying to use the Windows server as a workstation as I got it for free and do not want to buy Win7.

Hello I got Windows Server 2008 R2 as part of the Dreamspark program and trying to make it into a normal PC. So far I done that but just have a few problems. In dxdiag my graphics card has 1Gb dedicated plus 756Mb shared. I only got 2 Gb of RAM and don't want it being used by the graphics card as 1 Gb is plenty. What services do I not need as I'm not running a server? When I click the icons in the task bar they used to light up a little and then the program would load. It works fine in Admin account but not in a limited account the icons do not light up. E.g. click Firefox and the Firefox icon on the task bar lights up orange and then dims to normal colour. Last thing. Would an extra 2Gb to my RAM(total 4Gb) be much of a upgrade for Win Server? I currently got 2Gb DDR3 1066Mhz. Thanks.
