BTW, since you talk to MS, have they explained why they are so OBSESSED with HIDING often necessary things from the user? (Such as the tools menu only visible if you hold down ALT. Such as hiding extensions by default.)

However, encouraged by your post, I moved about 1/8 inch to the right of exactly between the columns, and the cursor changed again. This time I did succeed in changing the width, about 60% of the time. Not ideal, but with enough patience, I can eventually get the adjustments made. Thanks. (Why did they make it so hard)

In Win 2008 server I need to be able to see extensions, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. I also need to be able to set column widths. I expect to be able to drag the edge of a column, but all I am able to do is change to order of the columns, which I DONT want to happen. I desperately need to change the file type of a file, but I cannot do that. I need to create FetchLIS.exe.config. I started by creating a new text document. When I renamed it, The system invisbly added .txt to my new name which I can't remove, rendering the file useless. Please help. Thanks, Jon Jacobs
