I've been able to do a little digging into this problem. And what a pita. I'm not the only one by a long shot that's having trouble getting this to work. From what I've read the general consensus is that it don't work. And to use bmail, sendemail, or powershell or vbscripts. On the 2003 boxes I manage I used vbscripts. I was hoping that finally in 2008 MS had a real working solution for sending an email when an evt was logged you wanted to be notified about without having to write a script.

What address should you use for the From: address? In Linux it would be sent as root@servername. Is there something similar in Windows or should you use the address of the account you created the task with?
