What forum software have you used that is odd? Odd in terms of no one else is really using it and you just wanted to do something unique?

Before choosing the software to power your forum, take advantage of free trials and demos beforehand. You might blindly choose a software that you end up hating to use. Then, you have to go through the trouble of merging software. Sometimes, you have to use another software just to be able to merge one to another. It can become a nightmare. Test it out first and go with what you love best. What do you all think about this sort of thing?

That's why I really don't put too many in there. Focus more on making the content awesome because if people are clicking on it and consuming it for periods and not pogo-sticking, then you'll win!

I'm afraid I have to agree with MyBB being the worst. It used to be an awesome forum software before mobile really came into the picture. Now by default, it's not even responsive and that's not good at all. But back in my hay days of running MyBB forums, it was a beautiful piece of software.

I try to set goals for most of my forums. But they're simple and achievable for the most part. I used to set goals that were way too hard to achieve, and then I'd be a little bummed when I couldn't meet them. It took some forum owner maturing to finally figure it out.

Do you think polls on a forum are often forgotten? I know most platforms hide them behind a button, which I think adds to the effect of many people not realizing that the feature is there. Do you often neglect to create polls?

My advice is simple. Don't expect overnight success. Enjoy a smaller community while it lasts. It's where you make your biggest and longlasting friendships. -
We do need to be as welcoming as we can. Onboarding new membership is essential for communities and forums. It's how you turn a new member into a loyal member who keeps coming back.

How to come up with new content ideas for your forum? Do you follow a certain strategy? Do you research content before you post it? Do you keep a content to-do list at all?

I'd just be careful posting your forum to websites that aren't really relevant to your niche. I feel like posting forums on forums is one thing, but directories and boards that are meant for promotional items only might be bad for ranking. I know Google has said time and time again that it's not a fan of directories being used for backlinks.

Maybe make it for computer-related questions for users rather than just chit-chat. Keep it niche-based.
