Forum² Staff Shawn Posted March 2, 2010 Forum² Staff Posted March 2, 2010 When speaking of SEO, what are the top things I should be doing to have great SEO for a website, a forum in specific? Quote My forums: Another Admin Forum | vBAdmins Forum | Off Topic Forum | The Hiking Forum
Mike Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Now that's opening a thread with the $64 question, right up front. :D One thing I like to do is eliminate as much of the repetitive text as I can. For instance, it's common to see text welcoming guests and encouraging them to register on nearly every page of a forum. Whilst that can be great for getting new registrations, the search engines also see that text on every page. Setting those types of messages up as images can help. I also am a fan of eliminating the forum name from the title tags. I prefer not having every indexed page showing up with the XYZ Forums appended to it. I like to look at pages the way a search engine 'looks' at it. I want keyword-rich content as close to the top as possible. On a brand-new forum, I might set up an Introductions forum near the top, so people are encouraged to use it. As the forum matures, I will move it to the bottom and try to my on-topic content noticed first. For the same reason, I am not a fan of using left-hand side columns. I like to keep the number of links per page as low as possible. These are some of the things I try to address first. What are your ideas?
