I have always went to sites in my same topic and asked if they would like to exchange links. I have never tried an type of exchange or trading site. I think it could be good. I don't know of any except for the ones I see at the admin sites I visit. Links are always good. You just have to watch that you don't get involved with any kind of bad link farms.

One of the biggest issues here is tracking links you've exchanged with. I do notice a lot of webmasters take down links sneakily after a few months and you end up on the losing side.

 

I would be very careful doing link exchanges with potential competitors as you could end up benefitting them a lot more than it being of mutual help. I would suggest using some kind of automated link tracker to see if your link exists on the exchanged site.

 

Unless of course you trust the link partner.
