Balin Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Hey! I've got an issue with my Server 2008. I run it on Virtual PC with 1 shared networking and 1 with local only. I have a DNS server on it so I've made it locally. Now, I installed an XP operating system to an other VPC and I want to connect it to the Server, but it can't even ping it . I believe I set up the IPs right, so I don't know what is the real problem. Anyone got ideas? Thanks, Baln P.S: I just started to learn about the server so I think it will be easy for you, but it is improtant to me. sorry for my bad English I'm from Hungary:P Quote
Forum² Admin F2 Staff Posted January 23, 2009 Forum² Admin Posted January 23, 2009 Your English is fine. Are both client and server in the same subnet? Quote
Balin Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Yes they both are on 255.255.255.0, but still.... One thing i don't know: when i set up a local networking, is it only for the selected VPC or it is visible for the other too? Or should i config something on the server? Quote
Ruscik Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 If you setup local only VPC is not communicating out at all (good for first setup before you put firewalls and stuff). You need to select one of your network cards (used one) instead of local only. That needs to be done on bought VPC computers (server and XP). Than DHCP server (or your router) will assign IP, you can give static IP as well just be certain your DHCP server allows those selected IP's. Quote
