I hope this is the right section to post this.. I saw some similar issues here..

So, I have everything working on my WS2008 box, it is running DHCP and DNS for my network. But I still have a networking issue with Hyper-V.

I have tried multiple virtual PCs: XP, Vista, Linux.. but none will see my NIC. I select my only NIC when initially setting up the virtual system so it should be usable. I also checked that it was enabled in the settings of the virtual PC. My server created LAN 3 connection in network connections and when looking at IPCONFIG I can see that LAN 3 and my Local Area Connection both get good IP addresses and are on the same subnet. Also, in my servers device manager I see the NIC and then a second line with the same NIC plus "Virtual Network". I have tried letting LAN 3 be static and DHCP, no change. I think the main issue is that the virtual systems are not seeing my NIC, they never have any network adapters listed in device manager - is that normal? I tried installing the drivers for the NIC on the virtual systems, but it cannot find the device - Am I missing a way to "captuer" the NIC or something like that?!

Any help is much appreciated!

If it helps/matters, my NIC is the built in adapter on my Asus board - Atheros AR8121/AR8114/AR8114.

Thanks in advance

Hi ,

not much of a hardware person, hence hope I understand your question. I spent 6 hrs surfing internet yesterday for the same reason as you, guest would not see the NIC. You need to install Legacy Network Adapters for your guest os. then connect the legacy network adapter to the logical network adapter that you created via virtual network manager.

Some links that helped me connect my guest os to the internet

Hyper-V Integration Services Requires a Newer Version of Windows Vista

hope this works for you.

Followed the steps and I now have the emulated intell driver... but i'm still only able to get a 169.254 ip address... any thoughts on how to get a good ip address?

Thanks again

Answered my own question...

Took a few reboots and playing with a couple of static IP addresses in the correct range.

Spot on shivani! Thanks again!
