Rexpontius Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Dear All, I recently installed a new server in our network with Server 2008 standard X64 version. The machine is also installed to be a fax server. Sending and receiving faxes from the server itself works fine, also the SMTP connector works fine. However if I want to connect a Vista Ultimate x64 client to the fax-share and I try to print/fax a document all goes well until I click the ' send' button. With Server 2003 x86 fax server, no problems on same client. The machine will ' think ' for a couple of seconds before giving RPC server unavailable error. I tried to search the internet for solutions but nothing found so far. Perhaps you can help me out  Quote

Rexpontius Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 Is the service started? Off course it is :) Both on the client as well as the server (I suppose you are referring to the RPC service). And the fax server service is off course also started on the server. No firewall active inside the internal network.... Quote
Rexpontius Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 Yess! Today I found out where the problem was. It seems windows Vista will 'remember' the fax-accounts of shared fax-printers despite removing it from the printers section in control panel. When you install a new fax shared printer, the account in Vista Fax and Scan is nou automatically updated to the new fax-server. Therefore the client still tried to connect to the 'old' fax-server in our network, which was off course unavailable (thus RPC server error, etc.) To change the fax account open Fax and Scan in the Vista client. Click 'FAX' in the left lower pane, click tools in the menu and then choose fax'-account. In this window you can enter the name of the fax-server, NOT the fax share . The example dialog box shows \\myserver, but this is also WRONG! The only thing you need to enter here is "myservername"(without the quotes) Everything works perfectly now. Quote
