belinda Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I have setup several W2K servers including SBS but this is my 1st Win2008 Server and I'm having issues. The server has 2 x NICS (1 external and 1 internal) for which I've setup many times before for other customers in W2K environments without issues. NIC 1 (LAN) IP: 192.168.0.2 SUB: 255.255.255.0 GW: EMPTY DNS: 192.168.0.2 NIC 2 (INTERNET) IP: 192.168.1.10 SUB: 255.255.255.0 GW: 192.168.1.1 (IP of ADSL router) DNS1: Pri DNS server of ISP DNS2: Sec DNS server of ISP I've installed DNS, DHCP, RRAS and can get IE access on the server (was previously having an issue but reinstalled the OS and that seems to have fixed it). I have DNS setup with forwarders to the ISP DNS servers. DHCP seems to be allocating all settings without issue. I can access the Internet from the server no problems. I've been able to successfully connect a workstation to the domain controller but the workstation (Win XP Pro with SP2) cannot get any IE access. I can ping the server both via IP and by name but not past the server. The workstation can view shared resources but has no Internet services. I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security but this did not help (trying to exclude if it was a firewall setting). I am stumped on what the problem is.. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Have I missed a configuration somewhere? Is there something new in Win2008 that I need to configure to allow clients to access the Internet? PLEASE HELP... P.S. I've spent double the amount of time I thought I would on this and i know it's probably something I've missed and will probably have the "ah ha" moment when i get it sorted but I've gone through everything I can think of. Forum² Admin F2 Staff Posted May 3, 2009 Forum² Admin Posted May 3, 2009 There are many people having problems with WinXP clients and internet access. I have yet to see anyone with a solution. When we upgraded we also had to upgrade all clients to Vista to get everything working as it did with 2003. Quote
belinda Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Well that is a little concerning to hear. I have just upgraded one of the laptops to Vista Business and shockingly its still not working.. I have no idea what else to try with this. From the Vista workstation i can ping the server name and server ip. I can even ping a www address and it returns the correct IP but the request times out. KelavaM Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I had this issue also, when we installed and started running Server 2008. It was happening with both the Vista and XP machines. I have 2 internal NIC cards in the server, one running out to the internet, one running out to the router/hub. I ended up getting everything running by bridging the two connections. The DHCP and DNS are resolving everything correctly, best I can tell. I dont know if this is the correct fix - but it worked for me. Quote
