G'day guys, I have just dine my first 2008 r2 install, all seems to be working fine ... But.. I can login fine from the local Lan, but it does not connect from a Wan RDP connection..

I have checked :

Router port redirection ( worked with a different system on the same port)

User groups remote user OK

I am most confused as previous non r2 installs have been fault free

Is this a domain controller or stand alone server? Is this an admin account or just a user in the remote desktop user group? If it's a domain controller and not an admin account, then you need to modify the default domain controller policy to allow remote login for the remote desktop group.

G'day Matt, Its a stanalone server, All accounts admin or otherwise connect perfectly on the local lan, but none form the outside world, the rdp client does not see the server at all, I keep thinking I have missed something that is different in r2, but have now re installed twice with the same problem

Do you have the windows firewall on? If so, it's worth turning it off momentarily to check. If it's not that, I'd run netmon on the interface and see if connection attempts are actually making it to the nic. If you connections to the nic, are there responses out. If there are responses out, are they going to the correct network gateway.
