Activation In Hyper-V

Hello all. I have a question I cant seem to find an answer to anywhere. I got Windows Server 2008 R2 from dreamspark as I am a student and have it installed and running as I want. I also have a R2 instance installed in hyper-v running other roles.

My question is can activate the virtual computer with the same product key as the one I used to activate the physical machine? I have read on microsofts website Windows Server 2008 standard comes with 1 virtual license.

You need another key. You could try activating by phone. That might work, but, the keys from Dreamspark are MAC keys so only one activation per machine.

Hey. Thanks for the quick reply. Ok thats fair enough. I wasnt sure if I would be able to just do that. I will have to see if I can get one. If not I will try by phone.

Im worried though if I have problems with the server in the future it could cause me to need to reactivate it; and because of me using the product key to activate the VM I may have problems. I will have to see. Thanks for your help.
