A question to ask an opinion to 'Experts' At this moment i have 2 domaincontrollers. (win2003) Functions : Active Directory 1 controller : dhcp, fileserver and global catalog & master 2 controller : ISA server and backup from 1controller. users +/- 400 pc's +/- 130 Those servers become to old :-), I mean... Now i have 2 new servers in possession Intel Xeon X3220 4C 2.40Ghz 2x 250GB SATA Hot Plug 3.5" + 2x 500GB SATA Hot Plug 3.5" 8192MB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 ECC 2x GB-LAN + MANAG LAN Is there any one who can give me propositions of how to build the new environment ? (server 2008R2) for example : Use the 2 servers physical with specific roles or 1 physical server and the other virtual.....???? (physic with dhcp, printserver...??, other virtual with 2 or 3 servers one file server, one TMG, one.....) Oh, i will use TMG instead of ISA. Who can help me? Quote
mmthomas Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It's really up to what you want, but if you are going to have 1 virtual server, then it's good to have 2 virtual servers. With 2 virtual servers you can move servers from one to the other if you need to, or recover your servers if one of the physical hosts dies. We're running just about everything on virtual servers, now, and loving the flexibility. As for the number of servers running which roles, it really depends on the number of clients you will be serving with the roles. Quote
