ICTCity Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 As part of a class assignment, we are installing Windows Sever 2008 on external hard drives with Win 7 Virtual PC. Can anybody, share their experience in what is to be expected or share any issues that occur during installation? I did the same thing at school years ago with WinSrv 2k and 2k3, no problems... I don't think you will experience problems, maybe the speed could be a problem but this depends on your hardware :) Let me know if you need further help! mevansirl Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Hi, A good tip (depending on what system is hosting the external hard drive) is to go into device manager and disable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the USB Root Hub that the hard drive is connected to and possibly on the Hard Drive itself (Unlikely it will be available as an option on the hard drive but you never know) Hope it goes well for you! M I think this is not really true... saving energy is made by driver and this COULD happen with network cards when they aren't in use. External HD are usually not affected because of the program which is using that device, locks it. Anyway, that option is normally involved when your system is a notebook and the battery goes low. If you want to know a bit more regarding this option, take a look here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff566341(VS.85).aspx Quote -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais.
