adamscottmartin Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hi, this is probably a noobish question but here goes anyways: I have a secondary partition for my data on my server containing some shared folders and some folders with user permissions set. I need to backup all of the drive data keeping these shares/permissions intact so I can upgrade my RAID array from 5 to 10 for certain reasons. Would it be possible to use robocopy to backup all files to an external hard disk, then use my RAID config to create the new array, and then use robocopy to transfer all the files back to the new logical drive WITHOUT losing the shares and permissions? If not, it has been suggested that I get a copy of Acronis and try that. Any feedback on this or suggestions for other tools or methods to accomplish my task? Thanks much, excited to find this forum and eager to help with future problems! Quote
ICTCity Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 You can use FSMT: http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2009/06/30/microsoft-file-server-migration-toolkit-1-2-available-as-a-free-download.aspx HOW TO: http://thebackroomtech.com/2007/08/28/howto-migrate-file-shares-permissions-and-user-profiles-paths-in-a-windows-2003-domain/ The article explains how to move files / folders on another server, anyway, it's the same thing :) Quote -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais.
