Hi,

I've recently installed a vanilla version of Server 2008 to take over from our old SBS 2003 server which is close to death. Everything seems to have migrated well and the new 2008 box is running as a DNS server and a DHCP whilst clients are able to log on and off and access the internet as usual, IP's are also being issued successfully.

There is one problem, browsing the internet is very slow going, and I think it's DNS related. When typing in the URL to ANY website, no matter the site, the browser (multiple browsers on multiple platforms) hang for around 5-6 seconds before loading the page instantly. It's very odd as it's not like it's making any progress then it's 100%. The internet here is relatively quick so handles web browsing without a problem, also download speeds are completely unaffected and are up to speed.

It's just the browsing on any client machine running any OS, any browser is met with a 5-6 second delay before the website loads, it's getting quite annoying! When I did the "migration" the DNS on the 2008 box seemed to somehow populate with the settings as per the 2003 box without me doing anything, is it possible it's looking to the old 2003 box for "something", not finding it and then loading, hence the delay?

Can anyone offer any advice and fast, I'm getting linched by the other members of staff here!!

Cheers.

Just to isolate your problem:

Set the DNS on ONE client to 8.8.8.8, then type ipconfig /flushdns

Retry, do you have the same issue?

Hi there,

Many thanks for your reply, I have just tried this and the client I used is now super-fast as before and responding instantly. What is my problem and how do I fix it?

Many thanks!

Cheers.

Check in your FORWARDERS that you don't have the old server. Also make sure that FORWARDERS are the addresses provided by your ISP.
