Soldier Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Good day I am the sole it person of this company and would like some ideas n going forward with a project. there are three locations throughout the country, but my country is very very very small. what I want to do us have one domain for the different offices. How would I go about doing this? Do I place the DC in head office and maybe a Cisco VPN router at each location and configure it? Or is it better to get a direct line from my ISP in each location, having all locations on the same network? Will I need a server in each location? Will I need a DC in each location? The organization is small, with not more than 50 PC users. Thank. You for your timely response. Quote
ICTCity Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hi, Your question is pretty easy but not the answer. Everything depends on how much traffic do you have. If you have 10 different location with 50 computers that authenticate at the same time, the speed will be really important. You can create 2 DC on the "primary" office with one domain and 10 sub-domains, then with a router or server you can create a VPN to authenticate users. The second possibility is a dedicated server for each location. With the first solution you have a centralized environment, but if something fails, everything fails. The second solution is a bit expensive but more reliable because of each location has its own server. I don't suggest you to pass directly via your ISP, it will be expensive and I don't really thing you need this at all. If you need more infos please tell me something more on what you want to do and how much location / pc / traffic you have. Soldier Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks. I understand what you're saying with respect to both situations. Ideally I believe the server in each location will be the best bet with a site to site VPN. I don't know what the budget allows as yet but if it doesn't for the above scenario, then one main server and a site to site VPN will have to suffice. There are only 3 locations with not more than 50 pc users. Quote
